The award highlights how the VSME gives smaller businesses a practical, proportionate way to engage in sustainability reporting without heavy administrative demands.
At the ISAR Honours 2025 ceremony in Geneva, EFRAG was recognised for its Voluntary SME Sustainability Reporting Standard (VSME). The VSME is designed around SME realities: clear guidance, manageable disclosures, and a modular structure that lets companies start simple and expand as they grow. It helps SMEs share ESG information, meet rising expectations across supply chains, and take steady steps in their green transition.

Digitalisation also plays a key role. Through XBRL and open-source tools, the VSME lowers technical and cost barriers, helping create more consistent and accessible sustainability data across markets.
This is exactly the challenge Compera set out to address even before the VSME was concluded. In Compera, our implementation of the VSME aligns with EFRAG’s direction, aiming to ease the reporting burden for SMEs by offering more guidance, more support, and a stronger, unified approach to data sharing: report once, share with all customers.
EFRAG welcomed the recognition, which underscores the VSME’s growing relevance as a tool that strengthens transparency, opens new opportunities for SMEs, and supports a more sustainable economy.
